Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway has in its route diverse topographies and landscapes. There are rolling hills tucked with beautiful river valleys, marshes, corn fields, wetlands, hand planted forest and prairies. The Nebraska national Forest is home to variety of birds and animal species. Tiger, lion, bear, elephant can be witnesses roaming in there natural habitat. Exotic trees like the ponderosa pines, red cedars, jack pines with tiny hamlets create striking natural view.




The Annual Sandhill Crane Migration and the Prairie Chicken Booming offer encounter to the wildlife in the area. Almost five lakhs cranes migrate to sandhill descending on the Platte River Valley. There are many historic buildings and museums in Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway. Stuhr Museum in the Grand Island of the Prairie Pioneer houses collections and exhibits that represent the culture and heritage of old America. Sandhills Journey Scenic Byway facilitates a wide array of adventure sports like hiking, horse racing, floating, boating, and camping. The Western Heritage Museums exhibits a large collection of American Indian artifacts. Prairie Pioneer and Custer County Museum are other noted museums that fall along the highway.
