Nebraska has only national forest in the state that is the Nebraska national forest. The forest which is stretched to an area of 142,000 acres is located in the U.S.state of Nebreska. The forest was established by Charles E.Bessey. The Nebraska forest was established in the year 1902. There are two ranger districts in this forest; the 90,000-acre Bessey Ranger District is located in the central Nebraska's Sandhills. The U.S. governing body looks after the maintenance of the forest.
The idea of establishment of this forest was influence of the purpose of experimenting if forests can be established in a treeless area or a completely deserted area. The area was also used for the establishment of the national timber reserve.

The effort of establishing the forest resulted in a 20,000 acre forest area. It is also considered as the largest forest in U.S artificially planted.
