According to the history of Lincoln , it started out as the village of Lancaster that was established in the year 1856. In 1859, Lincoln became the county seat of the newly- made Lancaster County . Omaha has been the capital of Nebraska Territory since the creation of the territory in the year 1854. Since most of the territory's population lived at the south of the Platte River , the legislature voted to move the territory capital in the south of the river. The village of Lancaster was chosen as the capital because of the salt flats and the nearby marshes. After all these, Omaha renamed Lancaster by naming it after the recently-assassinated American President Abraham Lincoln. Even though several people south of the river protested against the new name, Lancaster remained Lincoln and became the Nebraska state capital on March 1, 1867.
Lincoln is one amongst those few large Nebraska cities that is not located along either the Missouri River or the Platte River . This city was originally laid out near Salt Creek and among the almost flat saline wetlands of northern Lancaster County . Lincoln 's gradual development over the years led to the development of the surrounding land, most of which is composed of small rolling hills. This was the brief geography of Lincoln . Regarding the attractions in Lincoln , Lincoln is the home of Nebraska State Capitol. This exquisite capitol building is a skyscraper topped by a golden dome. There are other places of interest, too, like the American Historical Society of Germans from Russia Museum , Alice Abel Arboretum, etc.
