Location:
The Western Nebraska Regional Airport has a dual name of William B. Heilig Field. It is a public Airport operated by the Airport Authority of Scotts Bluff County. The Western Nebraska Regional Airport lies about three miles from the central business district (CBD) of Scotts Bluff, in the City of Scotts Bluff County, Nebraska, USA. The Airport is situated at a elevation of about 3,967 ft and covers an area of 1800 acres of land and has two runaways.

History:
In 1942, the US Army Air Force constructed the Western Nebraska Regional Airport spending a staggering amount of 5.5 million dollars. The replacement value is considered to be around 125 million in the present day. The base was one of the eleven US Army Air Force training base in Nebraska during the Second World War. Construction began with the evacuation of 28 farms at a go. There were hundreds of mess halls, office quarters, hangars, barracks and bomb sight storage buildings constructed within the base. The airfield closed in 1945, when the war department handed over the airport authority over to the City of ScottsBluff. With the construction of the new terminal building in 2003, there has been remarkable improvement in the all round performance of the Airport.

The Western Nebraska Regional Airport mainly serves the City of ScottsBluff, Nebraska, USA. Westward Airways used to operate from this airport but the flight operations ceased to exist in the year 2005. The existing operating airline is the Great Lakes Airlines, which operates from Monday through Friday to and from the City of Scotts Bluff and the City of Denver. Though flights are also available on Saturdays the number is less than the normal week days.
