History:In 1942, the Kearney Municipal Airport started as the Keens Municipal Airport. It was constructed in search of a site suited for military airfield. At first the airport land was very small amounting to about 532 acres, later on however an additional land of 2,227 acres was added to provide more room for the air landing operations. Kearney AAF was one of the eleven US Air force training base in Nebraska during the Second World War. Thus it is evident that the Airport has been an witness to a lot of historical incidents that took place at the time.
