Location: Situated at an elevation of 1847 ft Central Nebraska Regional Airport is about 5 km from the Central Business District (CBD) of the Grand Island, a city in the Hall County. The Central Nebraska Regional Airport is a public airport and is operated by the Hall County Airport Authority. The airport has two runways and covers almost an area of 2,435 acres.
History: The Central Nebraska Regional Airport was known as the Grand Island Army Airfield during the Second World War. It was selected as one of the 11 United States Army Air Force training base in Nebraska during the Second World War. Flight services: Served by a a single commercial airline, the service is subsidized by the Essential Air Service program. On 29 October, 2006, Air Midwest started operating as the US Airways Express with 2 daily flights to Omaha Eppley Airfield and daily flight to the Kansas City International Airport. The round-the-clock flights to Omaha continue to Kansas City, and allow one-stop service to Kansas City on two additional flights. The Central Nebraska Regional Airport was also picked as the site for the Chinook Helicopter Base. Since 2004 the Nebraska National Guard has been present with their constant presence monitoring the base operations. The Central Nebraska Regional Airport operates six flights daily from Monday through Friday to and from the city of Omaha and the city of Kansas.
